101 Editing with Avid Media Composer
This three-day course introduces the concepts of nonlinear editing
and includes all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system
for Windows and Macintosh. Session time is divided between demonstration
and hands-on practice, with ample time for experimentation with
sample SD and HD material. Students will use Avid Media Composer
to capture and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync
material, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles, and output
work. The final product will be a finished program. This course
is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users. Prerequisites: Designed
for the novice Avid Media Composer editor, no familiarity with
the system is necessary. Completion of a Windows or Macintosh
introductory course or equivalent is required, and a background
in editing, production, or post-production is strongly suggested.
110 Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects
This two-day course introduces basic effects and is a prerequisite
for the 305 Advanced Avid Media Composer Effects course. Topics
include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects,
creating effect templates, mixing HD and SD clips in an effect
composite,
using AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarps,
using the 3D Effects option, and nesting layers. Class time
is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. This
course
is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users. Prerequisites:
Students should have completed the 101 Editing with Avid Media
Composer
course.
119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro
This three-day course is an in-depth introduction to the techniques
of nonlinear editing on the Avid Xpress Pro system. The class
progresses through all the basic phases of creating a sequence,
including
inputting source footage, assembling and trimming sequences,
editing audio, creating titles, and outputting a finished
program. SD and
HD media are used. Class time is divided between demonstration
and hands-on practice. The course is designed for video editors
and developers of interactive media. Prerequisites: Completion
of a Windows or Macintosh introductory course or equivalent
experience is recommended; a background in editing, production,
or post-production
is also recommended.
129 Introduction to Avid Xpress Pro Effects
This two-day course is an in-depth introduces to the creating
visual effects on Avid Xpreo~ Pro. Topics include: creating
multilayered
effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, mixing
DV and HD clips in an effect composite, working with AVX
plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarp effects,
nesting
layers, and working With the Xpress 3D effects. Class time
is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. Prerequisites:
completion
of the 119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro course or equivalent
experience.
Course Structure
These course's are modular structure generally follows the
workflow of a typical project. In the modules, step-by-step
procedures,
and illustrations is used to teach the operation of the
Avid system. You will also find sections called Useful Applications
peppered
throughout the modules. These sections provide you with
real-world
examples of how you might use a specific tool or technique.
Tips and Notes also provide useful guidance. Review questions
are found
at the end of each module.
Who Should Take This Course
This course is designed for the novice Avid system end-user,
or for those completely unfamiliar with the software.
As long as you
have a practical understanding of the operations of a
computer you are eligible. Participants might be Union Film Editors,
Online Editors, Freelance Editors, Staff Editors, anyone
involved in the
video and film production process, or someone with absolutely
no experience in Film or Television.
Course Prerequisites
This course assumes that you have some basic knowledge
of the editing process as an editor, assistant editor,
director,
producer,
or
have otherwise gained knowledge of the editing process.
This course also assumes that you are familiar with the Windows'
or
Macintosh® computer system software, whichever one you
use.
Windows: You should complete an introductory course
on Windows XP or have equivalent experience. You should
be familiar
particularly with the user interface and navigational
tools.
